Fritillaria acmopetala
(Liliaceae). Snake's Head Lily, Fritillary. Genus of about 100 species of bulbous spring or summer flowering bulbs. Found in a range of habitats from woodland to open meadows and high screes, distributed throughout the temperate regions of the N. hemisphere particularly the Mediterranean, S. W. Asia and W. North America. Each bulb has 2 or more scales. Leaves are lance or linear shaped. Usually pendent, solitary, bell shaped flowers with 6 tepals. Fruits are capsules, often angular or winged. Fritillarias like a lime, humus rich, cool, moist soil but needs to dry out in summer.

Elegant flowers, easy to grow with green and brown bells, increases well. Happy in most situations. Ht 25cm/1'. Plants sold in 9cm pots

Fritillarias like a lime, humus rich, cool, moist soil and bloom throughout May. Known commonly as the Snake's Head Lily. Ideal for front of border or rockery. F Meleagris and F. pyrenaica are good for naturalising in orchards or areas not cut before the beginning of July. Plant 6" deep until end of September. Later flowering chequered brown and green flowers. Will grow in most places. Ht 40cm/18". Plants sold in 9cm pots
