Lobelia
| (Campanulaceae/Lobeliaceae). Genus of about 370 species of clump forming perennial herbaceous plants, good for watersides or wild gardens. Found in tropical and temperate areas worldwide, especially in North, Central and South America. Their habitats range from marshes, wet meadows and river banks to woodland, well drained hilly and mountainous slopes and deserts. Valued for their brightly coloured flowers, with simple, alternate leaves and 2-lipped tubular flowers borne in terminal racemes of panicles. Die down in winter, leaving rosette of leaves at base of stems. Like rich, well watered soil and will grow in water. Can be moved even when starting to flower.
