Narcissus
(Amaryllidaceae). Daffodil. Genus of about 50 species of bulbous perennials grown for their ornamental flowers usually in spring. From a variety of habitats in Europe and N. Africa usually found in meadows from sea level to subalpine altitudes, woodland river silts and rock crevices. Many thousands of cultivars have been developed. Each flower has a trumpet or cup (the corona) and petals. Basal, strap like leaves and bulbs increases by offsets. They are excellent for cutting and naturalise in grass.
