Five Phlox of OUR choice for £20
| (Polemoniaceae). Phlox. Genus of 67 species of late spring or early summer flowering perennials, some of which are semi-evergreen or evergreen. Found mostly in North America, with one from Siberia. Grown for their showy flowers borne mainly in terminal corymbs or panicle-like cymes. The flowers are salverform occasionally funnel shaped with 5 flat ovate petal lobes. Leaves are simple, entire linear to ovate. The tall border Phloxes (maculata, carolina and paniculata types) give excellent late summer colour and are mostly from riverside habitats. Grown for their terminal profusion of panicles of bright flowers which are good for cutting. The subulata, divaricata and stolonifera mat forming types from dry, rocky habitats are earlier flowering, and give excellent groundcover for rockeries and front of borders. Woodland species are mainly trailing and grown in shady site flowering early summer. Most grown in average soils in sun but some prefer acid soil, in light, dry soils in part shade
