Polemonium
| (Polemoniaceae). Jacob's Ladder. Genus of about 25 species of deciduous, clump forming, occasionally rhizomatous herbaceous perennials. Found in stony, arctic or alpine soils often by streams or in damp meadows, woodland or scrub in Europe, Asia, North America and Central America. Basal clumps of unequally pinnate leaves. Grown for their long flowering, lightly fragrant, bell-shaped spikes in spring and summer. Ideal for edging a shady border or growing beside a woodland path. Dead head regularly. Fertile, well drained, moist soil best in sun or part shade
