Sidalcea 'Elsie Heugh'
| (Malvaceae). False or Prairie mallow. Genus of approximately 20-25 species of summer flowering upright perennials, some rhizomatous, occurring in grassland, woodland glades and on mountain streamsides in W. and C. North America. They form clumps of rounded to kidney-shaped, palmately lobed or toothed basal leaves. Grown for hollyhock-like cup shaped, long lasting pink flowers held in dense, upright, terminal racemes. Each flower has 5 spreading, sometimes fringed, silky petals and numerous prominent stamens. Good for mixed borders and as cut flowers. Light, sandy, neutral to slightly acid soil best but will tolerate a wide range of soil conditions. Rich pink flowers mid July. Sun or part shade. Hardy. Ht 60cm/2'. Sold in 9cm pots.
