| (Saxifragaceae) Umbrella plant. Genus of one species of rhizomatous perennial, grown for its large bold, peltate, veined foliage which turns red in the autumn. Fine marginal water plant. Also called Peltiphyllum. Clusters of star-shaped pink flowers before foliage appears in spring. Stems are thick pink and fleshy covered with soft bristles. One of best of all hardy waterside plants from mountain streamsides in woodland in western states of USA. Flowers late April before foliage. Moist soil but will tolerate drier conditions, in sun or part shade. Ht 1m/3'. Sold in 9cm pots

| (Scrophulariaceae) Genus of about 50 species of summer and autumn flowering perennials, some semi evergreen. Found mainly in mountains in southern Africa. Erect or semi-erect stems bear opposite leaves. Long flowering season with spurred, flat faced salmon pink flowers. Terminal racemes of tubular, 5-lobed flowers. Dead head regularly. Good for banks, pots and borders. Cut back old stems in spring. Flowering in June. Humus rich, well drained soil but not too dry in sun. Good for pots, hanging baskets.
