Schizostylis syn Hesperantha

(Iridaceae). Kaffir Lily. Genus of a single species of late flowering hardy rhizomatous evergreen perennials. Found in damp water meadows and streambanks in southern Africa. Grown for their showy, gladiolus-like slender spires of cherry-red silky flowers over grass-like foliage. Good for cutting, flowering September to November. Plenty of summer water needed for autumn flowers.
Likes moist soil, in sun or part shade. Good for herbaceous or mixed border or courtyard
