Nerine bowdenii



Genus of about 30 species of bulbous perennials, some semi-evergreen, grown for spherical heads of wavy-petalled, pink to red flowers in autumn, before leaves appear. Found on mountain screes, rock ledges in southern Africa. Loose spherical umbel of 5 to 10 trumpet-shaped, glistening pink flowers with faint musky scent. Good cut flower. Dislike disturbance - they like to grow in a dense, congested clump. Will grow in very poor soil. Eventual Ht 50cm/2'. Plants sold in 9cm pots
