Asia occurring in woodland, scrub and shady, rocky places. Leaves sometimes bronze tinged in spring and often colour well in autumn. Small flowers cup shaped with long or short spurs borne in racemes from April. Good ground cover under trees or shrubs. Cut back old leaves late winter just before new growth appears in spring. Humus rich, moist soil best in part shade.
