(Gramineae/Poaceae). Foxtail Barley, Squirrel tail grass. Genus of about 20 species of tufted perennial grasses (including the cereal crop, barley). Hardy. Found on disturbed ground in the temperate regions of both hemispheres. They have linear, flat or rolled fine arching foliage. Dense, narrow, cylindrical, occasionally flattened, spike-like panicles with long bristled spikelets are borne in 2 ranks. These flowerheads are very fine salmon pink like barley with silky awns in summer drying overwinter to give fine winter effect. They can also be used for dried flower arrangements. Any site.
