(Dryopteridaceae/Woodsiaceae). Shuttlecock Fern/Ostrich Feather Fern. Genus of 3 or 4 species of deciduous terrestrial ferns, commonly occurring in deciduous woodland in Europe, E. Asia and North America. In spring, the erect or creeping rhizomes produce lance shaped, pinnate fronds arranged like a shuttlecock; outermost, fresh green sterile fronds, surround denser dark brown fertile ones persisting into winter. Remove faded fronds regularly and divide plants when crowded.

Likes moist soil, neutral to slightly acid in partial or light dappled shade. Tall arching golden fronds. Very hardy. Eventual Ht 1m/3'. Sold in 9cm pots
