syn Mertensia simplicissima. (Boraginaceae). Oyster Plant. Genus of about 50 species of clump forming, spreading prostrate perennial with alternate, fleshy spoon shaped to oblong-ovate glaucous leaves. From wet meadows, woodland and coasts in Europe, Asia, North America and Greenland. Arching stems with pendent, bell shaped 5-lobed bright blue flowers opening from pink buds in May. Good for gravel bed, rock garden, herbaceous border or woodland garden

Sharply drained gritty soil, low fertility soil best. Ht 10cm/4". Plants sold in 9cm pots
